::: Kay, singer and guitarist in Czech Republic electro post-punkers Sunshine, was interviewed via email january '05. Questions by Matt :::
Please introduce yourself/selves...
I am kay, I am one 1/4 of a band called sunshine, play guitar and sing
How would you describe Sunshine to someone who hasn't heard your music?
someone told me yesterday at the interview we did for czech press that sunshine sounds like the cure in pornography era on speed. hard to tell...it's like expensive perfume someone throw against the wall with anger, it's like moonshower and razorblades, velvet suicide...
How did the band start? and whats behind the name?
Long time ago like a reflection of shitty musical world around and behind the name is pure sarcasm...

Who would you say are your main influences musically?
long list of bands everyone knows and even longer list of bands people don't give a shit about
Your new ep "Electric! Kill! Kill!" (Custard Records) is soon to be released, are you happy with how it turned out? How does it compare with previous releases?
of course we are happy, it's fragment of new album and we can stand up for every and any tune included. sunshine is concept, it's a freaky tv show and this ep is another episode with better sound and crispy love/hate nails sticking out of velvet box...
How would you say Sunshine's sound has changed over the years, since your inception?
I guess a lot but at the same time we have "trademark", if you're little bit familiar with stuff we've been doing over years you can recognize us after a few seconds

There are a couple remixes on the ep by Casey Chaos (Amen) and Chris Corner (Sneaker Pimps), how did this come about?
Friends, dear friends...Casey even Chris knows band for a while and they like sunshine, it was easy to convince them to do remix for us and I am really happy with that
What kind of themes do your lyrics deal with?
sex, sarcasm, obscure visions of world around even world inside of us
Whats good about being in Sunshine?
my passion about music got real frame. traveling is the key for knowledge of living life

Whats bad...?
I miss the people they are close to my heart when I am on the road. it's hard to leave even you know you really want to leave for obvious reasons...confusion about life's preferences, actually not that many things I can consider as a "bad", ya know?
What are your live shows like? Why should people come see Sunshine?
I don't know you should see it. isn't in general good reason go to see sunshine just realize what's their live shows like? I guess loud, fast, violent in the best way could be :-) lots of action, lots of noise sweet and thick as honey...
Do you have any scandalous tour stories you want to share?
not really and if I do I am not going to share, why should I? :-)

Who would you most like to tour/play with (past or present)?
the eighties matchbox b-line disaster, kasabian...
What are your favourite records at the moment?
the eighties matchbox b-line disaster - the royal society. I think this album is mayhem, totally got me!
An album you couldnt live without?
sex pistols, unknown pleasures and closer from joy division, boys don't cry from the cure

What have you got planned in 2005 for the band?
our album coming out soon world wide we will tour a lot and hope we will do all the brit summer festivals. I am looking forward to play there
Any new years resolutions?
no comment, all secret shit :-)
Anything to add?
not really, I am not a messenger:-))
