Statistics - Leave YourName

Statistics is the solo project of Desaparecidos' guitarist Denver Dalley, Leave Your Name the debut full length. Dalley specialises in uplifting, often instrumental rock with strong electronic leanings, with the subtle touches of Appleseed Cast and American Football, and the occasional energetic outbursts of Desaparecidos.

Dalley has really got the knack of writing powerful and uplifting instrumental passages, as shown with "Mr. Nathan" and ender "Circular Memories". There's also a more upbeat, poppy aspect to the cd; tracks like the radio-friendly "Hours Seemed Like Days" seeing Dalley fondly recall obselete technologies. The afore-mentioned Desaparecidos influence really shines through on tracks like "Rreminisce", benefitting the album no end.

Dalley's fusion of indie rock and electronic pop often plays with the quiet/explosive formula, as well as a patient progressive style. Not afraid to experiment and do the unexpected, the resulting combination of technologies old and new create subtle, beautiful landscapes right alongside the more straightforward and upbeat catchy moments.

Statistics is always going to be compared to Desaparecidos bandmate Coner Oberst's hugely popular Bright Eyes project, but in truth its a million miles away musically, and brilliant in an entirely different way. Take the impressive connections away, and this release still stands out as something special.
