Panda Bear - Person Pitch The third record from Panda Bear, aka Noah Lennox of Animal Collective, sounds something like the Beach Boys singing from the great beyond. It's pop – but experimental, hallucinatory pop. Lennox’s vocals float over a backdrop cluttered with layered samples, creating a sound that’s at once celebratory, surreal and fairly uncomfortable. The strong sense of repetition adds to the soporific feel, and can make the record a little prone to monotony – but that’s a small price to pay for such an ambitious and unconventional 46 minutes. matt |
