INTERVIEW:

Interview Short: Barely a year old, Danes The Kissaway Trail have already inked a deal with Bella Union, who have released the quintet's self-titled debut. Indie-trained ears are already turning expectantly in
their direction.
Questions by DM Manning.

How are you enjoying the spring so far?

It has been fantastic so far! We played at SXSW in Austin and some other cool shows in DK and around Europe.

Has your tour been enjoyable, or hard work?

Both. There is always a sort of pressure because we know that we have to go out there and do good. But it is nothing we can't manage.

I understand we can see you in England soon, are you looking forward to the English crowds?

A lot. The last time we were there we had a great time and people seemed to like the show so we are very optimistic!

How did you come to be on Bella Union? Has signing with the label boosted your confidence?

Simon from bella Union heard our music on myspace and then we started communicating. People pay attention to Bella Union and there is a lot of respect around the label, so yes, it means a lot to be signed there.

How long did it take to make the video for "Smother + Evil = Hurt," and did you have much choice in which single you released?

About 1 month. Dan Sully who is the maker of the video has done a very good job and we appreciate it a lot. We had no doubts when we chose Smother as the first single, but we found a lot of the other songs potential as well.

The vocals are great on the recording, have you guys had to train professionally?

Thanks! No, not really. I think that Søren had some lessons once, but nothing special.

Tracy Maurice has done some great art work for yourselves and Arcade Fire. Have you ever met the lady, and is she as intriguing as her paintings suggest?

We have never met her, unfortunately, so we actually don't know that much about her, besides her fantastic painting style.

I can barely tell you are Danish on the recording. Does it bother you that English people are very poor students of language?

Not at all. No problem.

What music has inspired you?

Bands like Grandaddy, Sonic Youth, Beachboys, Placebo, Psyched up Janis and 1000s more. We love music!

Finally, what genre would you classify yourselves?

An indie-pop-rock thing... Yes.
