It Dies Today - Sirens

The latest in the never-ending string of emo-inspired metalcore (or was that metalcore-inspired emo?), comes NY’s It Dies Today. And along with the required 3 word band name, this means your usual ingredients of (insert one the following: crushing, brutal, punishing) metallic riffs breaking into (anthemic, uplifting, radio-seeking) melodic passages. Apparently these guys used to go down the former, heavier route much more, but now with Sirens have taken on that word that will cause existent fans to swallow their ipods in protest: accessibility.

As far as namechecks go, I don’t have to go beyond the A’s: see Atreyu, Alexisonfire, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying. And there really isn’t anything else to say, which about sums the thing up. I had this review written after four tracks, and there was no cause to change any word after listening to the rest. It’s not terrible, and it does what it does well enough, just in a very uninspiring way. Competence may be up on stage preening its painted fingernails, but imagination is crying discarded in some dark corner.
