Henceforth - Lush (ep)

Not bad screamo/emo stuff. Has the harsh screams, clean singing, melodic bits, heavy bits – basically everything the genre demands. It even has the token half-acoustic track (“All You Need”), and an unashamed Taking Back Sunday extolment (see end of “Back Off Man, I’m A Scientist”). The production needs some work, and the songs can sound a little messy, but this also works in favour of the band – preventing any polished screamed verse / sung chorus formula from springing up, and the frantic noise the six-piece create is agreeably dissonant more often than it is annoyingly so. But perhaps the main reason this ep still falls under the “not bad” category, is its contagiously raw energy – something the pop-punk gendered guitars are perfectly suited for (see “Reach For The Sky”). “Not bad” is still a long way from “must have” though, and realistically this isn’t going to appeal to many more than your average screamo fan – a fan who isn’t exactly stuck for choice these days.
